The Gospel of Luke (52!)

This year-long course of Sunday morning studies was written for a class of adults who were approaching the Bible for the first time (or for the first time since childhood).  Lessons are simple but not simplistic, keeping in mind the students’ probable lack of familiarity with the biblical texts and redemptive history.  Suggested discussion questions are text-based and demand attention to what is written, rather than what is remembered, assumed, or felt.  Even 52 lessons are not enough to cover Luke in detail, so consider this collection as representative of the Gospel rather than an attempt to be comprehensive.  Some lessons are longer than others, and overlap from one to the next is sometimes assumed.

Teachers will find these outlines open-ended enough to add to, but also thorough enough to carry them along if their preparation time is limited.  Student response sheets are included for most lessons.  I have divided the 52 lessons into five bundles, each with a Table of Contents; see chapter list below.  [Note that when we did this study in our church, we ran it from January through December.  On this schedule, Lesson 51, the “Christmas Quiz,” falls right about at Christmastime.  If you use these plans with a different calendar scheme, you may want to insert the Quiz at another point, so I’ve provided it in a separate document as well as in Vol. 5.]
